Post by guillaume »

Hey all,
I've gotten many conflicting answers as to whether my Rineloricaria sp red is a male or female, what do you think ?

Looks like a nice female to me.

Hi @guillaume, I agree with Fallen_Leaves16. If that fish is mature, it's female.

Cheers, Eric

Awesome, my local pet store only has males so that's my preferred outcome 👍 thank you for your answers !

A word of caution about this fish. If it is not mature, there is a chance it'll turn out to be male after it grows. But if it's adult, then yes, female.

Good luck,
Eric

Hey all, just wanted to provide an update. I managed to get a male (happy to clearly see his odontes) and they have already brushed past each other a few times. I put two hollow bamboo cylinders in the tank for their privacy but I believe the male is still a little young compared to the mature female so I'll be patient.
Thanks again for your help !

Glad you got a male. With proper sized bamboo caves, chances are good something will happen eventually.
