Hi matpreec,
All 24 of my plecos are living and thriving in London tapwater (including L002, L046, L104, L114, L177, L187a, L204, L205, common, gibby, two types of bristlenose and golden heterodon). I have plenty of Mopani root in these tanks, which probably softens the water a bit, but essentially it is straight London tapwater. The ones in my Malawi tank even put up with the salts I sometimes add to the water.
What Tanganyikans do you intend to keep in that tank? I have six Neolamprologus brichardii that could be yours for much less than retail price. I traded them for some Red Juwel fry a few months ago, but I'm no longer going down the Tanganyika route and they were causing too much sh!t in my Malawi tank, so now thay are in my 15 gallon quarantine tank until I can rehome tham. They are rapidly approaching breeding age. £18 for all six (you collect).

Well i have a Zebra plec and a L134 at the moment and i too have driftwood and oak leaves and roots in there so that helps a bit but i would like to breed plecs of some form or another and wondered if any would see my water as..... an aphrodisiac!!!
As for the brichardi, thanks alot, but im looking to get something a little less aggressive as its my first time with Tangs. Some shellies maybe OR a pair of Julies and some Syno petricola.
Im looking into RO systems but its causing so much confusion

I too am hoping that some of my plecos will find London tapwater an aphrodisiac, but something tells me that I will need an RO unit to get them really horny. Let me know what you find out, as I'm pretty clueless as well. I think one of my LFSs said they could get a basic unit in for £70, but I haven't worked out the full costs of running it, replacing membranes, etc. Also there seems little point in an RO unit without an electrical conductivity meter and possibly other bits and bobs to test the water quality.
BTW, where did you get your zebra pleco?

Yeh i'll give you a shout as i get more info... seems to be on the unaffordable list at the mo though
Unbelievably i was GIVEN my Zebra plec (im not joking) by a work college who was convinced it was "killing his platies!" So i ripped his arm off...ahem... i mean caringly offered it a home HeHe. He's getting on for 8years old now apparently - Dya know how old they can live for?
Im on the lookout for more L134 (leopard frog plecos) btw if you know of anywhere that sells them? or a definite female for my zebra!

Tri-Mar has got some L134 in stock at the moment. They're all sold out of Zebras (I think I bought their last three!)
No idea how long zebras live for, but I've heard of a 10 year old still going strong.
