New fishroom gadget

Just picked up a handy new piece of equipement for my fishroom.

(photo borrowed from an Ebay post)
Found it at a local garage sale for $5.

Since the wife doesn't let me touch the food processor anymore, I thought I'd use this instead. I already ground up about a pound of frozen Blaberus roaches. Worked better than the food processor (not the current one we cook with!) in that it doesn't grind them up too fine.
(So Barbie, am I getting to you yet?) The food processors make too much of a puree'.

Time to make some more blender mix fishfood. I think I'll try some fish fillets and earthworms next.

Paul,

Let me know how the earthworms turn out. I'm trying to figure a faster way of doing these since scissors seem to take forever for so many tanks;)

I haven't tried it yet (I'm stopping for worms on the way home tonight!) but I'd say this is going to be just about perfect. The roaches were reduced to small bite sized pieces (a large tetra could eat them) and not puree'. Worms will likely hold together just a bit bigger, but not much. I'm guessing it'll be like coarse ground beef.

The grinder has interchangable plates for the front that control the size of the grind, from 3/16" though 1/2" holes in these plates. Mine only came with 1/4" holes, works OK for me though.

I'll post results of various grind items.

BTW: Cleaning is a snap. Disassemble the grinder and wash it off in a fishtank with some big eaters in it. Allot easier than trying to get the ground fish smell out of my wife's food processor.

HAHAHA! I had completely missed this thread! Oh man, I can just imagine the squishing sound as those babies go through that thing! Like the scene from Men in Black, lol!

I have used earthworms before, but really just don't think there's THAT much more nutrition in roaches that its worth me dealing with it, hehe.

I bought an old Oster kitchen center with the blender/grinder/mixer attachments for 25 dollars at a yard sale. It's harvest gold, but boy did it make great fish food. Hopefully its still in storage at my mothers. I think Bob might have a meltdown if he found me using the new kitchen aid he got me for christmas for it,
