L70/76/265?

Post by Janne »

I have had these for a while and bought them as L70, I have visited the wholesaler quite a lot and every box he gets are the same and the exporter have them as L70 in his stocklist.
L70 Hypancistrus and L76 Peckoltia in both Datz and Aqualog, L265 Peckoltia in Datz and Ancistomus in the Aqualog. Could they be the same species...at least the L76 and L265?

The picture of the mouth is not perfect but match the picture in the new aqualog of L70.

Hi Janne,

the species is what I just recently gave the LDA-no. 84 (issue April 2004 of "Das Aquarium"). It is indeed a species which looks very similar to L76, but it differs in its final smaller size, and in its much brighter coloration and more contrastful pattern. Especially when L76 becomes old its loosing its bars and turns into the form which has the L-No. 198. L70 is a Hypancistrus and owns different teeth, so there should not be to much confusion between them. L76 and LDA84 are best placed at the moment in Peckoltia.

I forgot, you also compared them with L265. This is a species in which I have never seen that it gets dark bars, they only are a kind of light grey on ivory coloured ground.

Thanks for your answer,
So this is not either L70 or L76, L265 have more colour of grey and ivory at the pictures both in datz and aqualog but have the same pattern and shape as mine (have not seen them)...they change colour quite often after the mood and therefor I supposed they even look like the L-265.
So this is a species without L-no but have the LDA no 84...to me that only have to compared with photos of these three different L-no they look very similar almost identical to me and now they are four different species :) I have to take a closer look on the dentition of my species to be sure they not are a Hypancistrus...I just took a short look before so tomorrow I will pick one up.
They are between 9-12 cm TL and there is a female that are gravide to so I'm hoping they will breed soon.
Are they from the same area of river system around tapajós?
