Alright, another Bug keeper!

I actually just picked up my first Tarantula, a CB adult female Pink Toe. I'll send you pics at some point. (I needed SOMETHING to keep my wife out of the fishroom

)

If you don't already have it, there is a book you NEED to get. The Tarantula Keeper's Guide. Excellent book, roughly 200 pages full of "Old Hand" type information. I got mine on Half.com delivered for $8.50!

A couple of questions:
1. Do you know the sex of it?
2. Is it a kicker? How nervous is it?
3. Any plans at a breeding attempt? From what I hear Aphonopelma tend to be among the easier Ts to breed. (Brachypelma are suppose to be easier still.)

The guy I ordered from said it was a female, and I think that's accurate. Will have to confirm at the next molt.

It's quite skittish from what I can tell. Haven't provoked it to the point of kicking (yet).

It's something to think about. I think she's mature (~3-4 inches legspan). If I was to breed her, I'd have to find someone with a male willing to sacrifice.

Thanks for the suggestion on the book. Will definitely check it out.

They'll do quite well on as little as one cricket per week.

They can fast for months at a time so feeding schedules can be quite lax. From what I read, the main problem with most beginning keepers (myself included) is that they actually overfeed their spiders.

Very nice Brachypelma smithi

I have the opportunity to buy a little (3") female Brachy. emelia for $35. So much for sticking with Avics... ... I may have to do it!
