Are terracotta plant pots from Ikea chemically treated?

Post by retro_gk »

Hi,
A friend of mine has a bunch of these in various sizes, never been used. I was wondering if they were fish safe. A person I spoke to at Ikea did not know if the pots were chemically treated...anyone used them before?

I've used many types of plant pots in fish tanks, over the years, and unless the pots specifically state on them that they are milidew resistant or something, I wouldn't be worried, as long as they are new and haven't been exposed to pesticides or fertlizers. Soaking them first for a few days in a bucket of water that you change out every day might help your peace of mind though, and definitely won't hurt them! ;)
