I´ve never heard about this.Juveniles of large pimelodids (e.g. Brachyplatystoma) live in brackish water, but they do not spend their entire life there.
Silurus glanis is the one i forgot.I`m just fooling around with the idea of starting brackish aquarium again.I once did have H. seemanni and they were very fascinating cats indeed.All these species seem to grow big and S.glanis is gigantic.

Read Barthem & Goulding's "The Catfish Connection" for the life histories of large pimelodids. Field guides to the area (e.g. The Living Marine Resources of the Western Central Atlantic) also list large pimelodids.
