Candy Stripe Pleco

Post by BSaint »

Im rather new to the world of Catfish and saw a pleco marked as a candy stripe pleco at a petco and I feel in love with it. Then looking at the Cat e log i noticed this pleco is often confused with a clown pleco and was wondering if there is a way to tell the two apart. thanks in advance

Yup, they are pretty easy to tell apart.

A candy stripe pleco is mainly grey/white base colour, with dark grey/black irregular stripes that are quite thick.

Here's a photo of my Peckoltia Vittata:

The clown pleco has a base colour that is dark brown, with yellow, fairly thin lines.

And a photo of one of my Panaque Maccus:

Either are excellent small plecos for any tank. The panaque needs wood in the tank, whilst the Peckolta is more interested in vegetables and algae, including algae wafers and anything else that falls to the bottom.
