LFS selling "Rubbernose Pl*co" but does not look l

Post by batho »

I have just visited my LFS and they are selling a Pl*co labelled up as Rubbernose.

They (5) do not look like Chaetostoma milesi (Rubbernose Pl*co) in Cat-elog. Not spotted, shape of head very rounded (not rubbernosed!) and much darker grey.

They are dark grey, 3 inch long and approx. 1.5 inch at widest point (very stocky fish!). Covered in large body plates.

Generally found stuck to the glass in the tank.

They are for sale at £15.

They do look very beautiful fish but i prefer to know what i am buying to ensure i can look after it. I have heard too many horror stories!

Thanks in advance.

No pic, so I'm taking a blind stab here.
Could it possibly be Ancistrus ranunculus?

Silurus,

Impressed!

They do look just like L034 Ancistrus ranunculus but no head tentacles. I would of thought at 3 inch these should becoming prominent?

Would these be OK to feed on Courgette (UK) and tablets?

Would they be OK with an L205, LDA33 and a Spotted Raphael Catfish?

Not a bad price for this fish at all, but they also need crustacean/larval foods, and they don't tolerate medications well.
Warm water, but high oxygen levels.

Except that P. aurantiacus isn't gray.

They could be females they only have a single row of short bristles if at all. £15 sounds about right as well.

What do you mean by Crustacean food? I assume larval is like mosquito larva etc?.

Definitely not P. aurantiacus.

They have no signs of bristles around the snout. Will go back today as LFs were looking into what they were!

Keep you posted.

Things like freshwater crabs, shrimps, amphipods, ostracods, etc.
