Fertile eggs but no fry...

Post by kim m »

Hi all, my C. davidsandsi are spawning a coulpe of times each week...the eggs are fertile, because they don't fungus, and I've had a coulpe of fry swimming around.

The problem is, that even though there are 20-30 eggs every time and none og the fungus, I get no fry. I've tried everything, it seems.

1: Removing eggs to a container with an air-stone. No fry.

2: Removing eggs to a container with an ait stone, treating them with methylene blue. No fry.

3: Putting the eggs in a "net breeder" (framed net that is put in the tank)...a few fry, but only one or none every time.

4: Leaving the eggs where they are laid, and remove the parent fish. No fry.

The eggs turn tan in colour and after 3 days the egg shells are empty (looks as if they've hatched) but there's no fry to be seen... The two fry I've been able to hatch were very weak and died after a day og two.

Any help on this one?
Best regards,
Kim M

BTW, known water parameters:

Temp. 24 degrees celcius, pH around 6,5. I use rain water.

How many fish do you have in the breeding group? AND DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW OLD THEY ARE.

Hello Ian, sorry I didn't think about their age. They are at least 4 years old. I have 10 fish in the group (4 females I think).

Could it be they are too young?
