Info on Chaetostoma L-148

Post by bernt »

Does anyone have information about this nice fellow? I found two in my lfs, and Iâ??m thinking about buying them. In this link http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/2002-02.htm it is written that it needs lots of current, but do they need that if I donâ??t intend to breed them? The same link suggest that theyâ??re not a Chaetostoma, but Sophiancistrus ucayalensis. Does anyone know if this right?

I think the confusion with the L numbers means that L146-148 are now numbers not assigned to Chaetostoma species (but to Sophiancistrus).
THe fish in the CoTM is L187a, and I currently have one that's doing very well. A strong current is not entirely necessary (my tank does not have a particularly strong current), but I would say cooler water temperatures are a must.

Are your fish like those in the CoTM? If they are, they are L187a Chaetostoma.
This is what Sophiancistrus looks like (this is L146, couldn't find a pic of L148):

I have one of these as well. I was wondering what they eat. I don't have any algae but I've tried feeding him tablets, and fresh veggies but I don't think he's touched them. blood worms and shrip pellets have also been offered. I don't think he looks starved but the last two days he has come out to the corner that my chair is at and it looks like he wants some food.....

anywhoo any help?
