New Bristlenose

Post by 3bdesigns »

I know Mats does't like these guys...but I got one picture of my Veil Tailed Bristlenose. He's kinda small - his body is only about 2" long, but his fins are fabulous. I'm hoping the fishy store gets more in. They do have a 6" albino veil tailed one but they said he's not eating the best so they won't let me take him home yet... :-)

I'm not too keen on them either.

I think selective breeding for colour is just about OK, but messing around with a fishes basic body shape is unnecessary.

What happpens is these fish are heavily inbred to bring out these recessive traits. As a result they often suffer from reduced health and fitness, and therefore do not live for very long.

It's illegal for humans to do it, so why should it be OK to do it with animals?

I think they're God awful because they look so unnatural, if I owned an LFS I'd not stock them but it's hard to define why I feel so about this one but have "got used to" fancy goldfish.

They had about 10 of them, but by the time I got back to the store, there was only this one left.

They also have a 6" albino veil tailed one that is on quarantine until tomorrow (they put all fishies in quarantine when they come in for 10 days to be sure they are healthy and eat). I'm going to go back and hopefully snag him too. He's really cool looking.
