walking catfish digging

Post by mixixe »

Hi, I was wondering if it's normal for a walking catfish to dig in the gravel alot? He digs himself in the gravel and sits under it for a while and then does it again later. I started noticing that he did it alto more when I moved him to a bigger tank. I assumed because there was more room to dig. He was doing it before in the smaller tank, just there was less available gravel in there, so it seemed as though he did it less, but he does it all the time now. Not sure if he's itchy.

I have noticed that Clarias like to excavate depressions in the substrate for no apparent reason, so I am guessing it's normal.

The answer maybe that you have a male and that the depression that he is digging is "nest making" hoping that a female, passes bye and is attracted to his efforts.
There is a report is shanes world, thats worth a read.
