glass cats getting fat?

Post by plah831 »

Glass catfish (Kryptopterus minor) probably don't get fat the way other fish, even other catfish, do I'm guessing? Whereas most fish will lay down a layer of fat under their skin, I can't imagine glass catfish have any room for fat deposits under their transparent skin.

So I have noticed that my glass cats don't seem to have empty stomachs like they did when I first got them. Their stomachs used to evacuate and become a flat silver sac by the next day after feeding. Now I've noticed that their stomachs don't seem to go back to looking completely empty, even a day or two after eating. Does that just mean that they're getting plump? Or are they experiencing digestive blockages or something?

Thanks again for the help. It just doesn't seem that I can find information on these unique fish anywhere else.

Silurids do not deposit much adipose tissue in the body when heavily fed, but seem to lay most of it down in the abdominal cavity. I'd say this is normal.
