Re: what am I?
Don McLean should be the Don then!
I miss the teeth clue however. but this is the guy singing about American Pie
is American Pie a meat pie? kidney's? yeurgh.
I eat almost anything, including fried insects and all, but I draw the line at kidneys, cause i flat out refuse to eat things that taste like piss.
for the same reason I don't drink Heineken
I thought American Pie was apple pie or something, the kind they stick their weener in, in that silly movie with the same title.
kidney's
brrrrrrr

Because Don Mclean (toothpaste!) sang "Starry starry night" about a Vincent van Gogh painting. Too easy.panaque wrote: aka starry night bristlenose.

I hope this one hasn't come up yet... (where is that list?)
I am in a bit of a rush so just one clue for now:
1) My common name tells you that my spines are short and also which country I am from.

Re: what am I?
good thing you ended our suffering Panaque!
I would never have guessed that one......not in a million years I wouldn't
I'm so NOT into modern art and I couldn't remember any name of a Vincent Van Gogh painting, even if they'd waterboard me in Gitmo Bay
never liked Van Gogh, I'm much more into older stuff when people still knew how to handle a paintbrush: Rembrant, Michelangelo, Rubens, old Roman fresco's, that kind.

Re: what am I?
hehe
very understandable
I think it's a way of thinking, but for me music is music and art has to do with paint or sculpture or opera or something.
I prefer music over art anytime....
since all (no exceptions!) of my music is derived from blues and hence rock n roll; I don't view it as art.
art is elitist whereas rock n roll and all that evolved from it (from sinfer songwriters to the hardest satanic blackmetal) is quite the opposite
the only music that I can call artsy is jazz or classical music, both of wich I loathe.
now, yesterday me and a friend were watching the BBC (wich is better than anything the Netherlands can brew up on the telly), there was a big in depth documentary about the original Man in black; Johnny Cash
now THERE's someone that could be called 'artist', but personally I prefer to call him a 'rocker'.
I guess it's all in the nature of the beast

Do I sound elitist? I listen to radio-free abattoir (german goth) for inspiration for my art. Only the germans can put hardcore and a xylophone in the same songart is elitist

I personally think there's no objection calling performers artists, whether they make music, sculptures or paintings.sidguppy wrote:I think it's a way of thinking, but for me music is music and art has to do with paint or sculpture or opera or something.
Afaik, Don Mclean's song Starry, Starry Night aka Vincent was not just about one painting but more about Van Gogh's life, specifically the last part.
I will now start looking for another artist for the next riddle

Re: what am I?
Next fish.
1) you are looking for a band (artists!) whose name could (amongst others) mean a slang word for bathroom.
2) their most important record has a title made of 2 words. You'll need the second word to find the species name of the fish
3) knowing my preference, that won't be too hard

A quick search reveals that there are bands named The Loo, Bog Band and The Pisser but none appear to have a record that yields a species name. Hmmm

Re: what am I?
i found more than 8 different slang words for bathroom, but only 1 that reminds me of a band
the can, the head, the shit house, the asswipe, the ass gasket, the rain closet, the throne, the porcelain throne, the shit room, the shower, the bath, the rest room (although the last one ain't slang)
unless you're really gonna surprise me, I don't think that stonerrock from the 90's (The Heads) is in your music collection?
maybe the Talking Heads? but a talking head is a person on the telly reading the news, not a bathroom.....
but say, only half the bandname means bathroom, Talking Heads could be the band (and you do like them!)
hmmm
two word titles of a record
are we talking a single or a whole album here?
if singles count then Psycho Killer could be the one
are we talking of a common name again or are we talking latin this time?
edit, let's just take a huge gamble and assume that David Byrne & co IS the right band, that Psycho Killer is the record and hence 'killer' the term we're looking for and that it's the nature of the beast:
can't get anymore lethal than this ;)

Re: what am I?
the only band from Germany i know from that era is Sweet Smoke with their Just A Poke album.
1 album, 2 songs, each one a whole side.
most famous of those guys was the record cover, not the songs.
this band I would never have guessed, you can safely assume that.
wow, someone put a bit on youtube

BUt I gotta admit, of all the peeps I know, Marc has by far the biggest collection of weird, obscure, never-heard-of-in-my-entire-life-bands that I know of
the only German band that hits the speakers in here these days is RAMMSTEIN
