Thanks Atmichaels, I'll pick some of that up today and keep you all updated. I found that they were not nearly as relaxed as the Amaralia (behaving like rocks) or the Pseudohemiodon (happily scootering on top of the Amaralia) but rather they would bump into the sides of the bucket until I added some driftwood for them to nuzzle into (before I did that some of them where using the amaralia to hide under!Atmichaels wrote:This species seems especially prone to ich, probably due to being so easily stressed. I have used API general cure (metro/prazi) successfully with zero losses.

I can stop keeping catfish whenever I want. I just don't think I'll ever want to do that...

Just had a question about your dosing with 'General cure' @Atmichaels did you use half the dose or what it reccomends?

Close but no cigar. Had a female Tatia sp. "II", Marble Tatia, lay eggs within the last day. Unfortunately they are infertile but another female appears to be gravid. A big thanks to Ted Judy for getting these in! They will get there.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
After nearly two months I have to say that I'm really pleased with the current set up. Apart from the above mentioned species, I also added Devario pathirana, Stiphodon atropurpureus and Hypeleotris compressa. The only species that was already in the tank with the catfishes, Acantopsis choirorhynchus, is also still around.Marc van Arc wrote:Last summer I got inspired by the Dordogne once again, so I'm going to make the tank more open (less wood, some stones, more current). The inhabitants are going to be barbs (Sahyadria denisonii and Dawkinsia filamentosa), combined with Awaous lateristriga gobies. That should give me plenty to see.
75% of the wood has been removed as well as all Java fern and swordplants. Stones and pebbles have been added, as well as some kind of Nymphaea and giant Vallisineria.
Lighting has been changed (different colours) and the water colour is now clear instead of tanned.
As I was unable to find a suitable catfish species, I will leave it like this for the time being. As I said previously, if I want to see catfishes I will have to go to my pond.
Saying goodbye to my beloved Auchenipteridae was indeed hard, but I'm happy for the fishes that they have found a good home. In all honesty I'm also happy for myself, because I have refound my hobby. After all these years of seeing very little to nothing during the day, it's good to see fishes that are apparently unable to disappear, not even when I'm working in the tank. Arjan Kruseman labelled them as "forgiving" and that is exactly what they are. Moreover, they are lively, colourful and hungry!
I'm sorry for the off-topic, but I wanted to make my last PC posting in "my" thread.
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful 2016.
Marc

I had originally posted about these back in November, 2014. Bought 6 of these from Ted Judy as Tatia cf. galaxias. The first pic is shortly after arrival. The remainder were taken today of the fish on the right. 3 have grown into what look like intermedia, the other 3 look like the pics below. The spots on the body have completely disappeared and only remain on the tail. SL is 115mm.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Interesting! I bought some very similar fish from Ted (small intermedia-complex Tatia), but they have barely grown at all in the 10 months that I've had them. They started out at about 3cm SL, and now they're still about 3-4cm SL.Atmichaels wrote:I had originally posted about these back in November, 2014. Sorry for breaking my promise, but Jeremy, this is mating, not spawning. Once the eggs have been fertilized, the female will spawn in a week or so.jeremybasch wrote:It is Spring and love is in the air! Or in this case, water!

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Been a while since anyone has touched this thread.
Currently I have and .
The perugiae spawned twice in the last month; I moved the eggs to a 10 gal with a bunch of cory eggs and little cory fry, but I never saw any oil cats hatch. Next time I have to go back to my old habit of hatching eggs in a dedicated egg tank. To this day, I believe all my orca are females, so I need to source a male.
Anybody else want to report?
Cheers, Eric

My Tatia strigata seem to be going strong. 4 spawns in the last month! Centromochlus perugiae also keep on producing. Hopefully the rest of the woodcats get with it!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dZtZ2Plbl8

@kruseman, how are your T. gyrina doing? Any spawning from them?
It turns out your finder's luck was mine yesterday: I came upon a group of six Tatia at a LFS (I think they're ), three females, one male, and a couple of immature subadults. Had to get them all.
Now my list of currently kept auchenipterids is:
- (actively spawning)

Put these in a tank with dead leaves. That's some great camouflage... Not that the fish disappeared amonst the leaves, but the midlateral line, which looks so obvious in a bare tank, suddenly becomes the dark central petiole of a dead leaf. This fish is crafty!

They're doing fine, but no spawning. I think I need to provide them with softer water probably.
Nice to see you have a group now. Good luck with them, they're the best!
