Mats,

I've now written a function to format common names lists nicely. I had to do this for the CotM archive pages, but, as you'll know, once you write a good function, you can put it anywhere and so it is on the cat-elog pages too.

The CotM, Books and Shane's World articles pages will all be migrated onto the database in the next major chunk of work.

Huh?
Cat-eLog Data Sheet
Scientific Name Megalechis thoracata (Valenciennes, 1840)
Common Name(s) L004, L073, L028, L005, Portel Angelicus Pleco, Angelicus Pleco
Type Locality Brazil
Pronunciation MEG ah LEK iss - tho rah KAT ah
Etymology Megalechis: From the Greek megas, meaning large and lekis, meaning plate; in allusion to the extreme development of the coracoid bones on the breast of fully developed males.

I didn't know that Callichtyidae were called pleco and had L-numbers... ;-) Is there some variable that doesn't get reset when there is no common name, or soem such?

That looks better...

I found another minor bug tho'. If you go to the Cat-eLog "home" page, the link for C-, L- and LDA-numbers isn't a link... Probably just a five-second fix, I think...

Typo: Cat-eLog pages should say "Identification" rather than "Indentication" - the latter would probably be what you'd do if you have a flat C-source-file and want to make it more readable, running it through the program "indent" or some such...

No, that is not linked in as I have yet to write the c, l and lda number pages to pull from the database.

Almost any, I would say... It's "Indentification" tho', so if you searched for whatever mistaeked spilling I maked, then that's probably why you didn't find it... ;-)

Here's one example:
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... ies_id=213
And another:
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... cies_id=14

I would say it's in the code that generates the Cat-eLog page... ;-)

Just repeating this one, since I still think it should be "fixed":

The precision of the temperatures:
If we only give whole numbers in Celsius scale, it would probably be fair to round/chop the decimals on Fahrenheit scale...

Another one of those annoying little minor irregularities...

http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/cotm. ... cle_id=291
In the data section, it says for pH:
pH 7 - 7

Saying pH 7 if min and max are equal shouldn't be hard, something like this:

Code: Select all

   if (min == max)
       return numtostr(min);
   else
       return numtostr(min) + '-' + numtostr(max);

More formatting:
When reading the Ompok COTM article, I found this list:
allichrous gangeticus Silurus mysoricus Silurus microcephalus Wallago microcephalus Ompok siluroides Callichrus nebulosus Callichrous macrophthalmus Silurus chechra Phalacronotus siluroides Pseudosilurus bimaculatus Silurus bimaculatus Callichrous bimaculatus Callichrous chechra Silurus duda

It's not exactly easy to read - maybe comma-separation will make it at least somewhat more readable [it's never going to be EASY to read, as it's quite a long list, and there's nothint to do about that].

Something of a big push today, I've got the c, l, lda numbers pulling from the database. It's buggy, but it is equavalent functionality (and a couple extras) to what was there before.

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/numbers.php

Give it a try and play around with those different links!

I noticed the new "numbers" page, which is good layout, but I miss the ability to quickly get to a particular range of numbers.

I do however like the new "choose number of thumbnails on a page" - I just wish you had a choice that gave more than 4 in width, something like 36 (6 x 6) would be a nice option. But that's a minor feature request...

Definite bug:
The old link (in the Cat-eLog MENU) doesn't work any longer, it refers to http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/numbers/1.PHP, which no longer a valid page...

As far as I can see all species in the Cat-eLog are missing one synonym. Thus, species with just one synonym show none, species with two synonyms show one and so on.

I just realized, from looking at the original for the S. ornatipinnis text, and the new clog entry, that the pH is written without the decimal value, so the above should say something along the lines of "7.1 - 7.8", rather than "7".

Another bug:

On the Genus-page, when counting the number of species within the family, you don't reset teh value when you get to the next family, so the first one is correct, the next is previous + this family, and at the end of the list, you have a family containing some 1700 species, which is obviously not correct!

This all now works!!!

Link doesn't work, throw a 404 and return to the main page

Just go to the genus

Go to the species

Find a synonym and go to the valid species
