It's L204 Panaque sp you have.

Sorry for the lame title.. I just read that read me file. Oops!

Anyways.. I'm assuming these are juvenile, at less then one inch.. and the description says that they will not become spotted until they are adult, and they show more lines as a juvie.

My exporter tells me they come from Aguaitia river, wherever that is..

Can anyone confirm that this is an L204? Looks very close, but the spots/lines are throwing me off. What is suppose to be what, and at juvenile or adult?

Actually after looking at some more photos.. Perhaps these Plecos I have are more adult than I had thought. I like L204, thats for sure ;)

Well actually I think it highly depend of the size of the specimens here.

if really small, it could well be a very young P. cf albomaculatus.. since the name is galaxias on the pic and it is usually the name used in the trade by Peruvian exporters that could be the case...

the fact that the fins have lines and no spot is leaning toward Panaque sp L204...
the spots are also to well organized especially on the head region,

but so far even if it has not a lot of stripes, he does look more closer to L204

a natural hybrid between the 2???

Come on guys. How can anyone jump to the conclusion that the fish is possibly a hybrid? Not to mention that fact that I do not believe P. albomaculatus' range overlaps that of L 204 and we have no idea where the fish was shipped from.
Throughout the genus Panaque, young have very different patterns than adults. I have never seen newborn P. albomaculatus, but it would not surprise me one bit if they were born stripped and turned spotted over time.

The hybrid thing was thrown as the last possibility...

regarding your comment on young P. albomaculatus, it was my first thought, the only problem is we don't have a size for that fish...

I have seen a 12-15cm specimen Panaque said to be albomaculatus that head this exact markings...

I have 3 specimens of P. cf albomaculatus at home, the smaller of all when she was young also exihibited sort of lines... but the point were not that well arranged...

I am currently working on breeding my P. albomaculatus...hopefully I will be able someday to answer how young specimens look like!!!

The fish size is around 1".

It is actually a picture tooken by my Exporter, based out of Lima, Peru. It is listed as Galaxia, yes ;)

This is my 2" Panaque albomaculatus

You can clearly see that the dots are forming stripes on all of the fins......
