So in my 29 gallon banjo and ancistrus tank, I have one rather large banjo (exact species unknown, but I don't mean an eel-tailed; my smallest is three inches, and this large one is four) that had had a swollen gut for almost a month now.
Water parameters check out with no ammonia or nitrite, and low nitrate. pH has always been around 8.4.
I've fasted the tank for nearly a week, and this banjo is still huge. When I do feed, "she" swallows the wafers whole. I see no signs of distress in her "swimming" (since, let's face it, they don't glide as effortlessly as most fish!), and no labored breathing, or any signs that she is otherwise ill. Just a very large stomach, food or none.
Am I actually looking at a gravid female?
