ICH! Help!

Post by fishparent »

I think I have Ich! :( There are white dots on one of my panda cory cat babies (I've had them only a few weeks). I have turned up the heat slightly, b/c I read that might help (it was around 75 -- have increased it to 78 or so). What treatment do I
need to use, how much, for how long? I have Super Fungus Plus and
Melafix, but I don't think either of those is right. I'll head to
the LFS at lunch today and I'm sure they'll have stuff -- just
thought I'd get suggestions here first.

I don't know what contributes to Ich, but I'll mention here that on
the first major water change for this tank (50%, after 1 week), there
was an APPALLING amount of mulm in the gravel. I was shocked.
Perhaps I was overfeeding them, so I have cut way back -- I can't
imagine that it was anything other than uneaten food, esp. b/c I
rarely see them eating (unlike the goldfish and loaches in the big
tank, who are ravenous 24/7!), so it probably isn't waste, per se.

Anyway, please tell me what to do now!!!

Thanks --

Try some protizin, it is not too harsh but should do the job.
