"leopard oto" or pleco?

Post by benny »

Hi guys,

Another one of those that I cannot ID. Got one of these the other day and the shop confirmed it as "leopard oto" but looks like a little pleco to me.

Your advice again please.

It sure ain't an otocinclus!
It is a species of the Hypostomus group!

Could it be Hypostomus punctatus?

They look almost similar.

With few exceptions, Hypostomus is notoriously difficult to identify at the species level, complicated by the fact that this is a juvenile.
It might be better to wait until it grows a little bigger first.
