corys & protozin
corys & protozin
I noticed a few white spots on my rams dorsal fin and him flicking. Also spotted a mollie flicking aswell. So Yesturday I started waterlife protozin tretment.
What i completly forgot (and yes I know Im a prat) is I did normal full dose and have corys!! It wasnt until I had already added the 2nd dose thismorning and realised this evening that your supposed to half the dose with corys
As I finaly clicked I went to look in tank and 1 cory looked dead (found out it wasnt soon after) and was missing! The others looked lethargic.
Ive immidiatly done a 50% water change. I found the missing cory under a cave rock tucked well away.
What i want know is what are my chances of them surviving this?? Is there anything els I should do and is a 50% water change enough??
Also how do i go about carrying on treatment now? Another dose is due tomorrow (obviously half dose), should I do this and then the 4th dose on thursday? With me only doing half doses how effective will this clear up the whitspot? will I need to continue the course longer??
I havent a clue why the ram has gotton this as water paremeters have been bang on at:
Amonia: 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 20ppm
Im so pi****d off with myself ive made this mistake when I know better and if they die I will feel so awful.

Hi.
They are Panda Corys. Temp is at 78.
Today was due the 3rd dose of protozin. I hummed and arrd most the day about adding it so thought whilst im in all day to observe I would try again on the 3rd dose. Almost immediatly after putting it in the corys starting acting weird again. They all went bazark, then huddled up like before acting lethargic, then they kept dashing to the top to gulp air. Ive been checking them every 10-15 mins and they havent gotton any worse (not as bad as yesturday but that was 2 days of dosing) Though no worse there still not as well and the same little one has done the same as last time and buried himself under a rock (they never normaly do that)
I have contacted waterlife direct through email and explained and they told me that they use protozin when they get corys in and never had no reaction! They asked for the LOT number on my bottle and said they would take a bottle off there shelves and try it in a cory tank to see for a reaction. I gave them I think all the LOT number as the print underneath was badly printed and I couldnt read it but said I would take a photo of it and send it if they want. Im waiting a reply again.
Sorry they also said that there is a med called Octozin I could use if I thought my corys were reacting to protozin?? I did query is it possible then they could react??

Protozin
Andrea,
I have Protozin, but I have not used it for a long time, well not on and Corys. Yesterday noticed I had a C113 with damage to a pectoral fin spine, which was showing signs of fungus, so I thought I would treat with Protozin and see I I got the same reaction as you did and yes they did react. The only way I can describe the way they reacted was as if they had encountered a bad smell and shied away from it, not a violent reaction. It could be that it irritates the gills, but once it had dissipated all seamed fine.
