Aspidoras sp. (menezesi or what?)

Post by evanus »

I got three of these fish at a club raffle listed as A. nimenensis. This name doesn't seem to exist--perhaps it is new? The fish spawned about a week after I got them on the filter lift tube; about 30 eggs were there in a clump. I would say the eggs were about 3 mm, though I don't really remember them all that well. The fish hatched in about 3 or 4 days, and I got about 25 fry. 15 are now surviving in a 5 gallon, almost 4 months old and about an inch and a quarter long. What fish is this? The blotching pattern suggests either A. menezesi or A. sp. 'Black Phantom'. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch! If the pics aren't clear enough, I can send the originals.

The color pattern. You can double check against the pics in Ian's site (http://www.corydoras.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Aspidoras.htm).
