My Mystery Catfish

Post by Wild_foamy »

hi everyone

i jsut got a catfish that came free with my brothers tank which he has passed on to me, its only small (couple of inches) and swims upside down, it has long "whiskers", has a dark colored body with light stripes/spots and has currently taken refuge in my ornamental castle :S

sorry, no pics, but is it normal for a catfish to swim upside down? i cant think of anything else to include which may reveal the identity of this fish...

thanks, but it doesnt really matter now, poor thing has died and ive only just noticed

its been sitting amungst the plants for a while now and i thought it was just resting there as catfish do, but i nudged it slightly with the fish net after i noticed its gills werent moving and it sort of floated to the bottom of the tank

what really annoys me is that i dont know why it died, temperature was Mid-20s and the Ammonia reading was 0 (Nitrite and Nitrate were a bit high but i changed the water after i did the test)

Since you say nitrite was high, that's probably what did it.
