ID's and a Q

ID's and a Q

Ok the first 2 pics are not mine but a friend asked me to ID them.

I'm pretty sure the first is a common but its a lot nicer marked than I see around here.The second I'm not sure about, she says she baught it as an albino common but its stopped growing at about 7" and only gets fatter not longer.She has had it for about 2 years.

Ok a Q about my gold nugget(L177).I have noticed his spot patterns seem to be changing lately.He used to have well defined large yellow spots.But now smaller spots are developing between his bigger spots.Is this normal, he has grown quite fast lately.

Those are both commons alright. As for your L177, it's probably changing coloration as a result of growth. If you look carefully at some of the pics of the fish in the Cat-eLog, you can also see a similar pattern developing (though it's much less obvious there).

Yeah, gold nuggets do that with their spots. This is one of the reasons why everyone thinks they have L177 and actually they do not. At 3" SL L177 still have big spots. The other gold nuggets do not. You can really only tell them apart (using spot size as a "characteristic" if you compare like sized fish. Probably all the same species anyhow...
