I might have an opportunity to purchase a small group (4?) of grannies sight unseen and was wondering at what size do they show sexual dimorphism? I assume that the most distinctive characteristic would be the genital papilla of the male? Any information to this topic would help me towards a dream aquarium.

I may understand you incorrectly, but are you going to buy these specimens without having seen them first? Then I hope your supplier is trustworthy and you won't end up with some hybrid.

this is one of those fishes that I would never buy unless I can see the animals first
because of the hybrid Syno issues and the amount of money involved

too many oppertunities for traders to rip you off.

Believe me, that for the price I'm paying, I want to research this acquisition as much as possible. I have dealt with this company since the middle 1980s and totally trust them. I'm just concerned that the size that they have available may be too small to sex reliably.

What size are the ones on offer?

Sorry Richard for the late reply, the list has them at 10-12 cm. long.

genital papillae should be evident at that size, so sexing shouldn't be too difficult (as long as you get a clear view with the fish stationary for a bit)
