Just got a catfish (kids caught it in the creek).....have no idea what it eats.....will it live...should I let it go.....they want to keep it.......any thoughts???

It's most likely a young bullhead (or a channel cat). They aren't fussy eaters (will eat most fish foods), but they get big. If you are going to keep it for long, plan ahead to make sure there is enough room.

Look in the CatElog under the genus thumbnails . Then refer to the Ictaluridae family. That contains most of the North American catfish so you can identify your fish then tell us what you got.

I have a couple of small channel cats i caught while fishing. They eat the freeze dried blood worms and will eat shrimp pellets once they get soft from sitting in the water awhile. You can also feed them earthworms, dig them up or get them at the bait shop.
