That looks like an LDA-33 to me, Pleco33.

What makes you say that? The post at the top of the topic is clearly not a Baryancistrus sp. - look at the gap between the posterior of the dorsal and the leading adipose fin ray.

Konig,
One of the characterisitics that we look for in Baryancistrus is a flap of skin joining the last dorsal fin ray to the back of the fish. It looks like this:
I don't see this on the fish above hence my call on the ID (along with the large eye and the fact that I'm familiar with this fish "in the flesh").

I just had a look at my "LDA-33"... No skin flap there... So I take it it's no Baryancistrus, neither is it an LDA-33. Could it be a Scobiancistrus sp. L-133?

Doesn't look like a Baryancistrus. More like a Leporancathicus - can we get some shots of the mouth and a close up of the head. These fish are such a nighmare to ID.

Hi!
Yes it is for sure a Leporacanthicus, regarding the colour pattern and the dots should be either Leporacanthicus galaxias or Leporacanthicus cf galaxias. Your fish should be called the latter because of the unknown origin of your fish.
Under what name did you buy it?
Any idea form what country he was imported?
Cheers

I've had a chat with Jools, and it doesn't seem that it is a Leporacanthicus or a Scobiancistrus, the shape/"content" of the mouth does not match. Allso, it doesnt have the "horn" on the forehead that Leporacanthicus has.
I bought it as "Baryancistrus sp. LDA-33 polka-dot", I do not know where it was caught.
I will try getting some better pics of it, but he/she is quite shy. When i got it, I got two, but the smallest one died a few months ago. That one used to hang around on the front glass (which the one in the picture never does), the mouth had more of a Parancistrus/Chaetostoma shape, big and wide. I'm taking a wild guess here, but could it be a big spotted Parancistrus?

Not a Parancistrus but maybe Oligancistrus?

I would agree with that, but what we really need are lots of pictures of the fish and perhaps a year or two to see how it grows.yannfulliquet wrote:Could it be a Spectracanthicus?

That really does not look like a Leporacanthicus to me. The sucker disc should have a rougher edge and I can't make out the protrudance on the top of the head.
Interesting...
