Shane's World article 'My First Collecting Trip'

Post by Martin S »

Just wanted to give some praise for the article titled My First Collecting Trip.
I felt it was well written, and a very enjoyable read. It is something that I would love to do, not so easy in the UK mind you, but to take a trip to the Amazon is something I have dreamt of since a young boy. Although your trip wasn't as exotic as the Amazon, I am still very jealous of your chance to experience such an adventure!

Hey,

yup really nice relation. And also one important thing inculded: first practise in your own country, then you may think about exotic trips :)

Where one could buy all this nets needed for collections?

Regards.

Shane's on the right side of the pond for stuff like that; in some cases the US really IS a lot more free than mainland Europe

you go and "practice" catching fish with nets anywhere or camping where you'd like it in the Netherlands and you'll be ganked by cops and all kinds of other burocratic nasties in the worst way possible.
it gets you in a lot hotter water and deeper trouble than, say, beating up strangers or robbing defenseless old ladies.
I kid you not.

I think I'd prefer to practice in the tropics, mind. good weather, fish to catch aside from carp and the best: much friendlier people :D

When Amanda mentioned the idea I just jumped at it. I had vague notions of writing it up as a madtom CotM but this angle is better and more inclusive. Yup, I liked it and I even got to be in the photos and have leeches thrown at me.

I enjoyed my day at the Inner harbor in Baltimore, but this article made me wish I would have gone on the collecting trip, how often do you get to go with that kind of company.

Next time if they do this I am in!!

Hey,

Sid I don't know how things are working in NL but in Poland you can catch anything. You just have to drive for about 30 minutes to get considerably far away from a city then stop, go to the forest and voila :). The Law is other thing and you have to know what species you can collect and what you have to set free. We have plenty of small, interesting species of fish in europe (Rhodeus sericeus, Gasterosteus aculeatus, Pungitius pungitius, Phoxinus phoxinus, Leucaspius delineatus, Misgurnus fossilis, Cobitis taenia, Cobitis elongatoides, Cobitis aurata etc, etc, etc. In shore area of Baltic sea there is a lot more very, very interesting, small species of fish and shrimps you can enjoy collecting :)). Sadly not catfishes :(
