Re: Help checkerboard c*****d breeding info
What fish do you mean with checkerboard cichlid?
I canb think of 2 fishes, Nanacara anomala, where the breeding females show such a pattern and Discrossus filamentosus which show a such a pattern all the time
Nannacara breeds very similar to the harem forming Apistogramma, and are easy to breed. Thus 1 male in the tank and max 1 female for every 60 cm / 2 feet the tank spans. No too hard water, neutral pH or slightly below, no problem. The male will not bother himself with caring for the young
Breeding Discrossus is quite an achievement. They require very soft water - GH less than 1 DH, very low pH - 5 which means KH close to 0 and instable pH. The females deposit the eggs on leaves, and again the males don't bother themselves with any care for the fry.
As stated, very experienced breeders will be challenged by them. I never heard of anyone breeding D filamentosus, but heard of 1 breeding of D sp Tapajos
Good luck with them
