Carniverous Cat?

Post by Hyperion »

Hi everyone...I'm brand new to these forums, but I'm hoping someone will be able to answer a quick question for me.

I've got an absolutely monstrous "Medium" Plecostomus Cat. His tankmates are some Tiger Barbs, and three tiny Red Rasboras.

Now, upon going to feed them last night, there are only two Red Rasboras left. The third one is MIA. Gone. No sign of him anywhere.

We checked the filters, nothing. We checked around the tank. Nada. Nothing stuck to the underside of the hood. He's not even stuck in a plant somewhere. He's just NOT THERE.

The only fish large enough to actually consume Rasbora #3 would be the Pleco.

My question is, are they omniverous or even carniverous? I just assumed that eating algae, he's an herbavore, but stranger things have happened. lol

Anyone else have anything like this happen, or at least some insight as to where he's gone? Its kinda funny. lol

I'd think your post was strange, only i've had the same thing happen to me a few times.
I woke up once to find a 6" pimelodus sp missing without a trace and no remains or fish capable of tackling him.

LOL...that must be what happened then. Its very weird. They're kinda odd looking when they get bigger. Ours is a good 2-2.5 inches long already, and we've only had him about 2 months. (He has almost doubled in size in that time.)

I remember once reading about a guy who kept loosing neons at night. One night he turned off the lights and watched the tank. As the neons went to sleep and rested on the bottom the pleco would go over and suck them up like popcorn.

well, if the fish died and was laying on the bottom it's quite concievable that the pleco would rasp on it or even possibly consume it... not really likely he killed it though

He probably got it then. lol The chances of the Rasbora being dead at the time doesn't seem right though. I know it's POSSIBLE that he died, however, I'd only had him a few days, and the others are fine. (I know, I know..that doesn't mean anything. lol)

Why do the e's in pleco get censored out? What word could the computer possibly think that is? haha

Thanks guys!

I once wondered, and apparently there is a jinx of sorts. People were talking online about their pleco's and then they would suddenly die. By replacing the e with a * this danger is avoided.

That's because there's a truckload of people that are SO narrowminded, if you shovel charcoal down their throats, you can pick diamonds out of the other end.... :D

With them it's either you love catfish OR c-i-c-h-l-i-d-s.
Wich doesn't make sense to me, as I love both, and they combine very well, especially in a Rifttank (Tanganyika in my case).
