Bagrichthys hypselopterus
Testing, testing.
Just checking to see how my new sig is showing up. This catfish rocks!
Jools, would it be better off as my avatar?

The lancer of the .jpg? Well, it is really to big for a sig. line, but I could fiddle around with it, maybe create a silhouette or something. Mayve put that in your avatar and a small shoal of glass cats in your sig. line?clothahump wrote:Jeez HH that is massive.

Pretty cool, I took the liberty of fiddling around with your sig. a little to make it take up less horizontal space. I can revert if you like. Also, any change it can swim to the right?

You shouldn't have told us this, Heok Hee! All the fish in the CattyLog swim to the right! Poor Jools is going to have his work cut out for him! ;)Silurus wrote:... the usual standard is to have the fish face the left.
BTW, Heok Hee, why not animate your fish so that it actually swims to the left or right in your sig?

We need a :hic: emoticon to denote the fact that the poster is a few pints of stella tortoise past the point of sobriety. I write this from a hotel room in Inverness only made OK by the modem port and late-opening bar. So.........
Very early on I took a design decision about the fish swimming direction thing. From a design point of view fish in books look better swimming away from the binding spine. I.E. fish "swim" left or right depending on odd or even page number. This I am told by someone with a masters in publishing (my good wife). (a) I'm not arguing and (b) I actually do agree (c) it's a good tale and I'm sticking to it.
So when it came to Planet Catfish I felt that the "book" was what we now call the cat-elog and the "spine" was the vertical scroll bar going down the page dividing the lists on the left and data and picture pages on the right. All the images appear on the right and thus swim to the right. Logical.
That and I am a total stickler for standards like these.

Mind you, there are different forces at work in scientific papers. I think in the case of scientific papers, who gives a flying fox what direction the fish face. Sorry for the alliteration. In the case of Planet Catfish I have an opportunity to standardise that is rarely afforded to a conventional publisher.
There are (honestly) some images in the cat-elog that I have agonsied over when the fish in question is swimming, more or less, up or down. If it's just a little way or the other I will flip the image to suit.
Like I said, I'm particular about stuff like that.

I'm not sure I should be admitting all this.
