Rita sp.? ID please

Post by Stackdeck »

Hi guys , after my two goonch recovered ive had some time this weekend to go hunting for catfish in the shops. I picked up this little guy , about 4-5 inches for about $10sgd. Bought it because it looked interesting and also because I didn't recognise it as any of the tankbusters I knew. Some time back I posted a thread asking about an albino rita rita , those cost up to $150+sgd here so it was beyond my budget. This one looks like Rita , can anyone ascertain the exact species? (I know the catelog states a very large size for R.rita but having never seen a large one , it is unlikely it could outgrow my 5x2x2 anytime soon.)

Thanks Silurus. Just curious , how do you tell the difference between R.rita and R.chrysea? (I should have posted in the what is my.catfish i just realised sorry for that.)

Externally, the easiest way to tell them apart is by the size of the eye and juvenile color pattern.

Thats a lovely fish. :-BD

Very reclusive behaviour wise though. Not too aggressive either.

Major: Now what's this... stone, stone, stone, (looks down at his hand) and scissors. Now. Scissors cut everything, don't they?
Sergeant: Not stone, sir.
Major: They're very good scissors!!
