Fourth Zebra Pleco Spawn.

I pulled the fry from the most recent spawn from the father's cave today. There were 11 babies in total - more than any two of the previous spawns combined! Nobody was more surpised by this than me.

Congratulations! I'm glad to see that they're still going well for you. Has it been Dorothy spawning every time, or have some of the others decided to get in on the action?

Larry - it's hard to say which female has spawned each time. Two of the four spawns I haven't even noticed that Lloyd trapped anyone. He just guards the cave and after a few days I usually am able to spot a wriggler or two. My assumption is that it is Dorothy each time as she is the female I've seen in the cave the other times.

I ran out of blackworms about a month ago (which was before this last spawn) and I was worried the spawns wouldn't be as productive without the live food. I think I am going to just keep feeding the normal dry food blend and various frozen foods. Once they take a break from spawning every 4-5 weeks I'll reintroduce the live blackworms to prepare them to spawn again.

Congrats! What is your survival rate for the other two spawns? Hopefully this one will be 100%.

Once I pull the fry from the father at 2-3 weeks, the survival rate has been very high. Of the three spawns I've had previously, I pulled a total of 14 fry. Of the 14, only one from the second spawn died - I think from getting shuffled between grow out traps, but who knows. So before this spawn I'm 13 for 14....I hope the good luck continues!
