Spectracanthicus/Oligancistrus?

This came from an LFS a few years ago, and have never got round to getting an ID. Whilst moving fish today, I took the chance for a few photos, but sadly only one of them came out useable. Looking through the cat-elog, the closest I ever got was one of the above, but was never 100% sure.

Size is around 2.5"TL, and it's never grown. It was in the LFS tanks for about 2 years, never saw it until one day I spotted it and bought it home. FYI the spots are a gold/yellow colour. It is looking a bit tatty and seeing as I never see it out, I find it hard to know what it feeds on but having had it for at least three years, it must be feeding on something!

Look more like some Hypancistrus to me but other pictures would help

I agree. Looks something like the L004/005/028/073 type.

I think it looks like one of the small spot Hypancistrus species......

Maybe a port angelicustype L004/005/028/073 as "The DarkOne" says

Or maybe a small spot L102 or L201 Inspector/contradens......

We can rule out H. inspector, as it doesn't have a black edge on the dorsal and caudal fins.

Thanks all. I hadn't considered it was a Hypancistrus, and am sure if the mouth pics I'd taken had come out, it may have helped. Not sure what it was that made me consider the two species in the title...

Is spot colour in this fish varied? The pictures all show white spots, compared to the yellow/gold coloured spotting on my fish?

A shot of the mouth should confirm Hypancistrus at least.

Whilst moving some fish over, in preparation for the new

Glyptothorax siamensis

arriving tomorrow, I thought I'd capture this fish and get a couple of shots of it, one especially of the mouth. Apologies for the washed out look but it had been moved and needed the flash on.

Looking at the pictures, I'd have said no if going by:

Whereas, this one is much more a match:

Mine is at least 4 years old, and yet has never grown, and looking at the 'adult' LOO4, it doesn't have that wide, steep front profile, but still the more pointed, slimmer one of the second picture. If someone showed me the two pics above, I'd never believe they were the same fish!
