Foods Not Selectable

Post by Martin S »

After adding and setting up a new aquarium, I tried to add foods. I begin to type Bloodworm and the list appears below with the items that I might want to choose...except that when you click any of them, nothing happens.
If I then continue to type 'Bloodworm (Frozen)', and then hit 'Save and Publish', it lists it as '1. Bloodworm daily', with a checkbox to delete - is this what you'd expect? By differentiating between live and frozen in the entry, should it not display exactly what you have entered?

I will have a quick look at this. I think it's just the displaying that isn't working right.

I have tried to select foods and cant not matter what food or browser I use on windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, even on 32bit IE, it wipes all data when it fails each time and I have tried over 20 times now to create my aquaria but it keeps failing and losing all info :(

Yes, it appears to be broken somehow. Not quite sure why, but I just tried it on my local setup, and it's indeed refusing to select the data from the drop-down menu.

Yeah, I think I need to look at this feature. I might have made it too clever and thus unusable.

Jools
I think there are three different problems.
1. Neo can't create an aquarium where the food data isn't filled in.
2. Food filling in is broken in general.
3. Some people seem to have difficulty using the food system in general.

#1 is probably the most urgent to fix. I think we need to check if there is something funny going on here - like if you add hardness or some such, it then does something different.

@Neo: Can you try entering just a name and the dimensions to a new aquarium, and see if that works?

The only thing confusing me is this -

Dimensions: 98 x 70 x 60 cm (39 x 28 x 24")
Volume: 411.6 litres, 90.5 UK gallons or 108.7 US gallons

my tanks a Trigon 190L holds 190L not 411

Good spot, we don't support "non-rectangular (cuboid)" aquariums at present. We probably need to do something about that.

Right, I think we still need a foods field that is "database fields" (that way we can do calculations and such - e.g. say "48% of the owners of H. zebra feed them 'Bloodworm, frozen', and 33% feed 'Tetra Prima'." - if it's just a "notes" field, it gets very difficult to figure those sort of things out).

It thinks my Rio 124L is -

Dimensions: 81 x 36 x 50 cm (32 x 14 x 20")
Volume: 145.8 litres, 32.1 UK gallons or 38.5 US gallons

But thats close enough :P and good call on the food, makes sense to get an idea of what owners feed indeed :) cheers

Are you entering the height of the glass/max water level, or the height of the outside trim of the tank? The dimensions listed on web-sites for Juwel tanks do include the trim (usually).

It probably is something silly... Almost all problems are some simple thing once you get to the bottom of it! Problem is that you have to actually find the problem before you can fix it... At least it's easily reproducable - the real "fun" bugs to find is when you have to run a 3D graphics scene for 15-20 minutes where a few pixels are drawn wrong (e.g. wrong colour) 1 in 3 runs...

So, you mean when you click on the food item, it doesn't ACTUALLY select it, right? That's the same problem as the other "foods doesn't work" problem raised by Neo!

I thought it was that it wasn't displaying the food properly.

maybe merge all 3 threads and label them "trouble with Food for My Tanks and similar problems" or something?

Ido not know if tha's possible, but it might simplify things.
