questions about an airlift

Perhaps most importantly, airstones add water movement (and thus O2) without adding heat. A power head will also increase surface agitation (and thus O2) but will at the same time lower O2 levels because the submersed motor that runs it will heat the tank. I have seen some newer power heads that attempt to conquer this problem by keeping the motor out of the water.
As I’m planning a cold fish-room, for subtropical fishes, I had realized this myself. In this fish-room I will need airlifts to move the water. Problem is, I could not say how much.

If I have a 350 liter tank, say 140 * 50 * 50 cm, and I want to pump 1000 liter of water an hour through the inside filter – how much air will I need to pump, and how?

Hi all,
As long as you can keep the air temperature in the room at or below the temperature you want for the tanks, a trickle filter is very efficient at heat transfer, as well as biological filtration, and for the same reasons.

This was one of the reasons that I eventually enclosed the large planted trickle filters I used in the land-fill leachate work, they were a very efficient air conditioning unit.

Please provide me with an e mail address.

However, as I live in Europe, he might not be answering me, as i doubt I will order things in Florida which are also for sale here in the Netherlands

Do you have any idea about the water that goes through it?

I know he is frequently in Europe (he is Swiss), in fact he was editor of the BSSW Report for many years. He may also have a European distributor.
I'll see him up in Pennsylvania on 17 September and would be happy to ask him any questions you might have.

shipping hobby equipment to and fro between the States and europe isn't hard

as long as it's obviously useless to blow things up with, customs will not be any trouble

it's with live animals that gets hairy

but ordering a well-packed piece of aquarium equipent will not be trouble if the seller will ship.

I once ordered a huge book from the states, one that weighs quite a bit (for a book), now i got an honest to God US Mail bag :D

it arrived in the red white n blue bag in good state, no worries at all.

Thank you. An email has been sent,

As the air lifts will only be needed in February or later, time is not a problem
