Odd, there is no record of it on the notifications table. What date and timestamp was on it?

Re: Empty photo contributor e-mail...
The ones (and there were several) on the 13th February were due to an environmental bug in how the images were sent out - it won't happen again - they are characterised by having no subject.
I've sent details to Mats re his unique one to see if we can't jointly figure it out.
Cheers,
Jools

Re: Empty photo contributor e-mail...
Just randomly occurred to me that it might be something rendering the email. Maybe one solution is to put a tracking number (id) in there somewhere?

Re: Empty photo contributor e-mail...
I have tried the forum mail system (which is what we use for the email notifications) - I've sent myself more than 350 e-mails, a variety of sizes/content and I can't make it go wrong.

I wonder if it's a display/rendering issue. What email software are people using to view these emails?

I'm viewing it in Gmail, but I did "view original", and there is absolutely nothing there. If it's a display issue, you should see some "broken HTML" in plain text form.Jools wrote:I wonder if it's a display/rendering issue. What email software are people using to view these emails?

Re: Empty photo contributor e-mail...
Is that a statement that you've figured out, or a guess?Somehow, people who should be getting My Cats reminders are getting blank emails with the wrong title (e.g. "Thank you for your photo contribution").

Re: Empty photo contributor e-mail...
I just tried the sending side for one of each of "Photo" and "my cat" (by making two entries "not sent").
Still no idea what could be going wrong. Will have to quit quite soon, as I'm leaving early tomorrow morning for CSG auction (and will need to bag some fish before I leave).

Re: Empty photo contributor e-mail...
It's something I've figured out and is verified. People getting photo contributor emails got them fine others on the same "send batch" got blank "Thanks ..." when they should have got my cats reminders; in the database BLOB there is the correct reminder HTML.
It's a doozy. Meantime, I've swapped all live and pending sends to test.

Re: Empty photo contributor e-mail...
First of all, the issue only concerns "My Cats" update emails, for now, they have all been moved over to test so nobody (except me) gets these faulty emails. So, no more empty emails for my cats users.
OK, here is a, hopefully, clear and full technical description of the issue.
a) On the notifications table, everything appears OK. I have checked three records that went out blank and have valid code in the BLOB/record.
b) On the notifications table, the subject is "My cats update reminder", on the email, the subject is "Thanks for your photo contribution".
c) Photo contribution emails work fine.
As a side idea, it would be useful to have a page that shows the email in a browser. It can be used as a "Doesn't display right? Click here" type facility in the email as well as other uses.

Re: Empty photo contributor e-mail...
Fixed. The issue was to do with the cached copy of the email template being blank. A little unsatisfactory as I don't know how that came about and it doesn't explain fully the subject behaviour but it is likely an effect of the messenger class as, curiously, the phpBB designers elected to put the subject code in the email template. However, it's working again in test mode.
Switching it back on in live now at a throttled rate of three emails per 10 minutes. Will monitor for a while.
Well, there goes the morning!

Re: Empty photo contributor e-mail...
I _think_ (but it's not proven), that is was caused by me running the send job from the command line. The timings fit and I could see that it would give the resulting cached files different access (chmod) permissions than if run automatically.MatsP wrote:Good work finding that. Received photo contribution email
Hi, not sure if this is the right place for me to post this. But I received an email on 18th Feb this year thanking me for a photo contribution, I'm a little confused by this as I haven't been active on the site for a good 2 years at least.
The email body text was completely blank, just the title saying "Thank you for your photo contribution"
Any idea why I have received this email so out of the blue, and also what photo it was?
Many thanks
