Pictus cats prefer company of their own kind and I think your cat is probably pining for some company.

If you can, try to get at least two more. They're more comfortable in a small group.

Yeah I had a cat that was like that and I bought two more and now they hang out at the bottom and sides and stay active even during the day. They seem much happier now. Are you feeding it flakes? I would try feeding it a sinking pellet or some sinking goldfish crumbles mine seem to like those a lot!
