Eco-complete and/or flourite black sand

Post by jdykesrhs »

Are these substrates that cories can snuff around in and sift through their gills?

And what of the 'Petco black sand'?

Thanks.

Also under consideration:

National Geographic black sand (Petsmart)
Caribsea's Tahitian Moon Sand (Petco)
black quartz sand (if I can source it)

My seachem onyx sand is far to jagged for cories, I can't speak for any of those listed though.
I can stop keeping catfish whenever I want. I just don't think I'll ever want to do that...

Have you read these threads? corydoras and gravel/sand and Switching from gravel to sand?

Also, have you tried searching all the forum posts for fluorite: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/sear ... mit=Search

If you search the forums (http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/search.php) for any keyword you choose, you'll be surprised how many other people have wondered the same things - in other words, the answers are out there. In my experience, just about every question I ask is one that someone has asked before. That's the beauty of this forum - the information and knowledge is available for years after it's presented! ;-) :-BD

Good luck,
Eric

I have always had great success for my corys with Black Diamond Blasting Sand (black as the name says). It is found at most Home Depot or Tractor Supply type stores and is less than $10 for 50 lbs. For white sand, I use standard pool filter sand - just as cheap. The corys love it and some will actually bury their head rather deep in it.
