Corydoras panda and temperature

Post by MarlonnekeW »

Hi everybody,

I have a 125L aquarium with a group of Corydoras panda. When I first got them, I had them in a 54L aquarium; this February they moved to a new and bigger aquarium. What I'm a bit worried about, is the temperature of this aquarium. The heater is in the lowest possible position, but still the temperature is 24°C in the morning and during the day it rises to 25°C. At the moment, the outside temperature is pretty low for this time of year (15-18°C), so it could even rise a bit further on hot days (25-30°C). I think that the heat is generated by the two 24w T5 aquarium lights.

These temperatures are at the high-end of the range for panda's. How harmful is it to keep them at warmer temperatures?
Sometimes they look pale (their stripes are gray instead of black). That's why I'm starting to get a bit worried.

Thanks for your help!

In my experience, most Cory cats do well at a rather large range of temperatures. Some tend to like a little cooler, some a little warmer but a difference of 3 or 4 degrees C is not too much. Pandas have always seemed to do better in cooler waters, in my opinion. However, most of my tanks are around 24-26 and they have always done fine there. My tanks may reach 28 on a few hot summer days but it's never seemed to bother my corys. I do notice an increased lethargy in the warmer temps if the pH is over 7.

Thanks!

I'm glad to hear that higher temperatures are not a huge problem.
