Hi proggster,

To sex this species, look at the length of the pelvic fins of mature fish (see this photo: https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/im ... e_id=21423).

Your

Dekeyseria brachyura

look too small to sex reliably. How big are these fish? (please state whether the length you measure includes or does not include the tail).

If body fat means anything, maybe your last photo is female. But it could be a fat male. How long have you had them? (in other words, have you had sufficient time to condition them and ensure they are well-nourished?)

As an aside, both

Dekeyseria brachyura

and

Dekeyseria sp(L052)

have been lumped recently as

Dekeyseria picta

; however, our Cat-eLog has not yet been changed to reflect that.

Thanks for the info. Yes, that is what I expected. I have some also and they are about the same size as yours. I can't sex mine yet either.

Hi proggster and Eric,

I have some young fish as well that are almost sexable. I think I have a couple of females but the wait continues. The males seem pretty obvious when they get a little larger due to the extended pelvic fins as the pic shows.

Eric - is there a paper that lumps the species together?
