Should Olivaichthys viedmensis get moved to Diplomystes??

Post by bekateen »

Working on the Diplomystidae, I see . From what I can find, that name has not been valid for a long time and yet I find no old forum posts to address removing it (or not moving it) from Olivaichthys to Diplomystes viedmensis. Does any of our taxonomy folk have an objection as to why I shouldn't update this?

As context, the recent paper (HERE) updating Diplomystes says this about sp. nov.:
The five individuals kept as vouchers from the Bueno Basin show a long and continuous lateral line typical of the genus Diplomystes, so they were assigned to this genus following Arratia and Quezada-Romegialli (2017). The inclusion of this species to the genus Diplomystes makes the genus paraphyletic relative to Olivaichthys. Therefore, the genus Diplomystes should be used instead of Olivaichthys for species from Atlantic basins and the Baker Basin.
If this move is made, then Olivaichthys will be a genus without any species.

Cheers,
Eric

I can't see any reason not to move it. I'll pickup the empty genus at some point, I get a monthly alert. If someone describes a new catfish genus meantime then this can be readily reused (you and I will remember).

The odd thing is no robot has identified it as being in the wrong genus but I think that's to do with the following complexity:
