Please help identify 'black oto'

Post by DBam »

Picked up a group of these fish, labeled "Otocinclus negro" at a local store. Spent some time digging around on here and think they might belong instead to Hisonotus or Otothyropsis; some kind of Hypoptopomatinae for sure. Called the store back and they confirmed the source was Aquarium Glaser. It looks like Glaser has an entry for Hisonotus nigricauda but their photos show a darker fish. These ones I have also have lighter stripes on their heads.

For now they are in a cooler water, algae filled tank around 24°C / 75°F with some Scleromystax. Any help identifying would be appreciated.

Happy new year Eric! I think you may have it with O. piribebuy, thank you. Seems I'm on the right track with cooler water so I will keep them there.
