Is her l082 or l201?

Post by rhw1023 »

I got her from local shop. They said she is L082 and highly likely pregnant… but looks like L201.
Could you share your opinion about her species?

I'm inclined towards L201. Honestly, I don't know how to tell the difference between L471 and L201 other than size, and I'm not sure that's reliable.

Cheers, Eric

I agree on the Hypancistrus sp. I don't think L471 can be identified from L201, the locality I don't think entirely matters unless this can be studied? I also don't know the geography that well. L471 definitely gets larger in size then original estimates, they aren't the dwarf they were sold as. I think these spotted Ancistrus from this region maybe do need some in depth analysis, morphological would do but molecular.

Regarding Scobinancistrus raonii (Scobinancistrus in general) vs Hypancistrus you are looking for a much more elongate fish in Scobinancistrus with a longer more angular head. Hypancistrus is more rounded and shorter in the head with larger eyes. These two groups are very closely related and both have reasonably robust jaws. But if you look at the teeth that's the big give away, Scobinancistrus has larger and fewer teeth, stronger looking more elongate teeth.

Hi,

thats L 201 indeed.

L 471 will turn out as the same species as L 201 I assume. There were a few specimens kept and bred by danish hobbyists in the beginning, and they stayed small over years and generations (few only), hence it was published to be a relatively small species. But at new places the F4 + suddenly grew larger than they were supposed to following their DATZ article. This made me doubt the publication for the first time. However, there are still some of these "old" L 471 around and I advice people to keep them on their own, and be it for the pureness of this import from years ago. I am sure though most L 471 that were sold as such in the following months and years were common L 201 from the wild, and people simply tried to benefit from the new number.
