Aspidoras Eggs

Post by RichardAlibon »

I keep finding these in my nano community tank. There are 3 Aspidoras spilotus, all the other fish are livebearers (Endlers and two small Platies). Could they be Aspidoras eggs? I haven't noticed any catfish fry.

Hi Richard Alison,

Welcome to Planetcatfish!

Yes, those do look like Aspidoras eggs, but they don't look viable.

In my experience, Aspidoras likes to lay eggs in high flow areas - the outflow of an HOB, in the exit tube of a sponge filter, or a place on the glass where water current is hitting the glass. Does your tank have anything like this inside?

Better luck in the future,
Eric

It's a nano tank with no water circulation (except for the weekly change) so I wonder why they would lay eggs at all.

Now I have found Aspidoras fry in the tank. I previously mistook them for Endler fry swimming close to the bottom, but their way of swimming is quite different.
