Pregnant plotosus lineatus

Post by Alexis »

Could anyone help out with this? I have a mated pair of catfish and the female is pregnant. How long is the gestation period? She looks like she is going to explode anyday. Then once she does lay the eggs how long will that take? Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately, information on the breeding biology of plotosids is rare. But from what little is available for other plotosids, I'd say the eggs will probably hatch in about a week.
It would also be best to provide an open sandy area for the male to construct a nest in.

they have already made their nest under a rock. She has not yet layed them so it should be soon, I take it. Thanks for the help.

Start hatching artemia-eggs as soon as you have visible fry!
you might have a prime-event on your hands....

Nothing as of yet. She looks like she swallowed a golf ball. Her mate died about a week ago, so I don't know what will happen now. I will keep you posted.
