Food from mother nature

Post by GeoffO »

Having just moved from the big city to the countryside of the Scottish Borders, I find myself at close quarters with a number of potential food sources. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on these in general or if there were specific creatures to home in on/avoid.

eg I have started finding silverfish in my sink and when I pull up the weeds from my patio, there are often little white worms in the roots - these look like a good source of fishy treats but I wouldn't want to poison my babies!!

I think silverfish would not be eaten because they taste terrible (they may even be poisonous), as for soil nematodes (the white worms), I wouldn't take the chance as they may bear pathogens.

Thanks for the warnings Silurus - guess I'll just stick to dry food & the odd frozen bloodworm with a fresh vegetable garnish!! :D
