Albino Phractocephalus Hemioliopterus

Post by BIGblue »

Has anyone ever seen a South American albino redtail catfish? I was curious as to why they don't have red eyes like most albino fish.

I saw one on Aquabid.com for a couple hundred dollars. I'm guessing they're really rare. Very nice fish.

True albinos will always have pink eyes (due to the lack of pigmentation in the irises). I am guessing that what you saw was probably a xanthic form that lacks coloration only on the body.
