Red Book

Post by Shane »

Jools (and others),
While doing some research I saw that Chaetostoma guairense and Rhamdia humilis (former R. guairensis) have been added to the Red Book as threatened. Anyone see any value in placing some sort of tag next to red book listed spp? I have the Colombia Red Book and I am sure we could easily compile a complete list.

I don't know how well this Red Book thing works in other countries. I have the Bangladesh Red Book, and it is listing just about every catfish species widespread throughout the Ganges-Brahmaputra system as endangered or critically endangered. Of course, the small species with much more restricted distributions and of little commercial value (e.g. Erethistoides) are not mentioned at all.

Is there a website or something? It'd be easier just to link to that from each species? I'll stick this in "resolved" unless anyone wants to come back on this one.

Cheers,

Jools
